Mission and Values
Shriners believe in brotherhood, fun, family and philanthropy.
Founded in 1872, the organization now known as Shriners International was established as a Masonic fraternity that showcased fun and fellowship for its members. The tradition of fun and fellowship thrives today; as interests have changed through the years, Shriners' approach to fun has evolved as new members bring in fresh perspectives and creative ideas.
The possibilities for having fun as a Shriner are endless, and it is often said our members are "first to fun." Our local Shrine Centers around the world have thousands of activity-based clubs, units and events that provide ways for members to connect with each other in a fun environment. A unique aspect of our local chapters is that creativity is encouraged, and if a club for a particular activity doesn’t exist, members are empowered to create one. Shrine Centers also provide coaching, financial support and resources to help members develop their ideas and build their own member experience.
In today's busy world defined by demanding careers, family responsibilities and social obligations, men have many diversions vying for their time. While other organizations offer membership centered around one hobby or interest, it isn’t always practical or affordable to join multiple groups. However, as a Shriner, a man can be involved in as much or as little as he chooses. For example, a member can be part of a hiking club, motorcycle unit or professional development club; attend golf outings, wine tastings and participate in events with his family – all within one organization. And, he can do all of these thing while spending time with a group of fun, trustworthy, supportive friends and their families.
The members of Shriners International share common values and qualities, but the fraternity also appreciates their differences in personalities, backgrounds and interests. The organization thrives on a variety of member experiences. For example, everyone enjoys breaking bread with friends, whether you prefer to attend a formal dinner party or spend a casual evening participating in a local food tour, both options are available to you through your Shrine Center. Below is list of some of our clubs and units. Members are encouraged to join as many as they would like, or even start one of their own.
