Pediatric Burn Educational Opportunities

Taking care of the pediatric burn patient is one of the most complex medical situations you can come across.

By sharing our knowledge in the newest advancements of burn care, we can educate health care professionals in other communities; and working together, we can all provide the very best available treatment to children who have suffered a burn injury.

Emergent Pediatric Burn Care Course

This lecture and PowerPoint presentation focuses on the emergent treatment of the pediatric burn patient. For more information about this program please contact Louise Hoelker at lhoelker@shrinenet.org.

Initial Pediatric Burn Care Course

This course is designed for first responders - EMTs, firefighters, paramedics and nurses. This free seminar covers topics such as critical assessment, airway management, and case studies. The course is held at the hospital, for additional information please e-mail lhoelker@shrinenet.org.

ABLS Provider Course (Advanced Burn Life Support)

Each year more than 700,000 people in the U.S. are treated for a burn injury. The quality of care during the first hours after a burn injury has a major impact on the long-term outcome. Yet most initial burn care is provided outside of the burn center environment. Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) is designed to provide firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, LPNs, RNs, NPs, therapists, PAs, and MDs with the ability to assess and stabilize patients with serious burns during the first critical hours following injury. There is an online learning program and for those who desire full ABLS certification, the hands-on part of the course may be taken at a Burn Center or at an ABA meeting. For registration information contact Jean Merz at (513) 872-6250 or visit the ABA website.

Contact Jean Merz at (513) 872-6250 for scheduling information.
