East- West Shrine Game Set for January 17

» Go Back

October 21, 2008

The 84th East-West Shrine Game will kick-off at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at University of Houston’s John O’Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The game supports Shriners Hospitals for Children, the beneficiary of the event.

The East-West Game pits all-star college senior athletes who attend schools in Eastern North America against those attending schools in Western North America. The game and its preceding practice sessions attract dozens of scouts from professional football teams. East-West alumni include Tom Brady, Brett Farve, Walter Payton, Dick Butkus and other football greats.

The Sunday preceding the game, players will visit Shriners Hospitals for Children — Houston to tour the facility, visit patients and experience the Shriners Hospitals mission. The hospital will also be open for public tours.

“When players get to witness first-hand who and what they are working for, it makes the entire effort more meaningful,” said Ralph Semb, chairman of the Board of Trustees for Shriners Hospitals.

The East-West Shrine Game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. For more information about the game and tickets, please visit www.shrinegame.com.
