Special Programs
Camp Care-A-lot
Each year the Tampa hospital sponsors Camp Care -A- Lot, a summer camp for Shriners Hospital's patients ages 8 - 10 who have special needs that may prohibit them from participating in general community summer programs. It is held at an off-site campground where the children sleep in cabins and enjoy an action-packed, fun-filled week. Activities include swimming, archery, art and crafts, games and storytelling. The camp is staffed with a multidisciplinary hospital team who love to have fun.
For more details on space availability and requirements, call the child life department (813) 972-2250 ext. 7325.
Transition Camp
Each summer Shriners Hospital in Tampa hosts a "Transition Camp" for adolescents with disabilities. Our goal is to provide information that will help teens go on to lead independent lives. Teens who would like to attend should be independent in self-care, a junior or senior in high school with plans to continue their education or job training.
During the four-day camp, teens will stay in the parent center and meals are provided. Guest speakers will share information on transition topics, including transportation, self-advocacy and job opportunities. Teens also enjoy movies, games and eating out at local restaurants. For more information, contact the care coordination department at (813) 972-2250.
Pet Therapy
It should come as no surprise to animal lovers that dogs have been found to do wonders for children's emotional and social development. Certified therapy dogs help children and teens focus on their abilities while gaining confidence and self-respect.
