Patient and Family Information

Shriners Hospital strives to maintain the highest level of patient care, professionalism, cleanliness and safety standards.  In order to do so, we require that the following policies are adhered to:

Guidelines for Visiting

1. When you enter the hospital, you must stop at the reception desk and receive a visitor's badge with the patient's room number on it. This badge must be worn at all times. Siblings under the age of six must undergo a screening for communicable diseases.

2. Visiting hours are from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Four visitors per patient are allowed at any one time.

3. Visitors under the age of six must be a patient's sibling.

4. All visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

5. Latex (rubber) balloons are not permitted in the hospital due to the hypersensitivity to latex by some patients. Patients may receive Mylar balloons.

6. Due to diet restrictions and the health and well-being of patients, any food item brought in must first be approved by the nursing supervisor before it can be given to a patient. For safety and dietary reasons, please do not bring in gum or candy.

7. The cafeteria remains open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and reopens 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Snacks, beverages, sandwiches, salads and desserts are available throughout the day at these times at reasonable prices.

8. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a smoke-free campus.

9. No alcohol, firearms or weapons are permitted in the hospital.

Gifts

Limit to small, inexpensive items. The hospital is not responsible for lost belongings.

Telephones, TV, Cameras

Please ask the nurse which phones may be used for long distance (collect and calling card) calls. TVs are provided in each patient room and in the atrium. Movies are available for viewing. The child life department has a listing. No photographs may be taken of other children.

Safety and Security

The hospital is locked for security purposes from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday - Friday and 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays.
