Volunteer Opportunities
Shriners Hospitals for Children in Shreveport maintains an active volunteer program supported by dedicated individuals who seek to positively impact our patients’ lives. Volunteers at the Shreveport Shriners Hospital serve in a variety of capacities, from direct patient interaction to support roles. Among the opportunities for volunteer service include:
- Child life programs
- Out trips
- New patient orientation
- Translation
- Crafts and activities
- Tour groups
- Sewing
- Classroom
- Rehabilitation programs
- Inpatient unit play rooms
- Clinic waiting area
Prospective volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and willing to commit to six months of service to the hospital. As part of the application process, volunteers are asked to provide references and pass a criminal history background check and drug screening. A two-part tuberculosis test is required as well, which is administered by the hospital at no charge.
Volunteer Recognition:
The Shriners Hospital in Shreveport appreciates its volunteers! Our volunteers range in age from 16 to 90, with each contributing in valuable ways to the well-being of our patients and to the mission and vision of our hospital system. Volunteer hours are tallied for each day’s service, with awards presented at the annual volunteer banquet. There, volunteers are welcomed to an evening of recognition and thanks, complete with gourmet dinner, prizes and drawings, and special entertainment performances.
