Gail Rains joined Shriners Hospitals for Children in Shreveport as director of patient services in 1994, and brings over 25 years of nursing management experience to the position. A native of Olla, Louisiana, Rains attended Northeast Louisiana University, where she completed her bachelor's degree in nursing in 1973. She went on to complete a master's program in nursing, graduating from Northwestern State University in 1985.

Since joining Shriners, Rains has spearheaded efforts to establish an Extended Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (EPACU) within the Shreveport Hospital, and instituted the Shriners-Shreveport Pediatrics Conference, a statewide annual event designed for regional pediatric nurses. She is a 25-year member of the Louisiana Organization of Nursing Executives, and currently serves as both the regional Louisiana Nursing Executives Committee Chairperson and a board member of the Louisiana Organization of Nurse Executives. An active member of the March of Dimes, Rains has served on local and state boards of the organization since 1990.

Rains is married with six children and four grandchildren. She enjoys gardening, raising cattle, and working on her ranch in Sabine Parish.
