Shriners Hospitals for Children Nurses Publish Scoliosis Overview in AORNSeptember 29, 2009 Four nurses from Shriners Hospitals for Children— Portland have been published in the official journal of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Jane M. Wick, RN; Julie Konze, RN; Kelly Alexander, RN, and Chris Sweeney, RN, co-authored the article Infantile and Juvenile Scoliosis: The Crooked Path to Diagnosis and Treatment, which was published in the September 2009 AORN Journal. The article is a thorough overview of the classification and treatment of scoliosis in children. Early onset scoliosis is a complex issue requiring a dedicated treatment approach during the childhood years. The article describes the range of treatment options and stresses the role of the child’s family and the multidisciplinary health care team in the long-term approach to treating scoliosis. In addition to the four authors, staff physicians Ivan Krajbich M.D.; Charles D’Amato M.D., and Larry Jacobson M.D., provided their expertise and assistance with the article.
