Cagen Named Hospital Administrator

The staff and Board of Governors of Shriners Hospitals for Children�Portland are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard M. Cagen as hospital administrator.

A senior leader in the health care industry for more than 30 years, Cagen brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Portland hospital. He received his undergraduate degree in public administration and political science from the University of Washington, and received his master's degree in business administration from Oregon State University.

Following his formal education, he served as assistant administrator at Albany General Hospital before holding leadership positions at Idaho�s Pocatello Regional Medical Center and at Utah�s Intermountain Health Care. He moved back to Oregon in 2001, joining the team at Providence Health Systems as chief executive for the Portland services area. He was later appointed chief administrative and strategy officer for the organization.

Cagen and his wife call Portland home. In his spare time he enjoys walking and other outdoor activities the Pacific Northwest offers, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Cagen began his tenure with the hospital on January 14. "I am so pleased to be working at an organization that does such meaningful work through an outstanding mission," said Cagen.
