Volunteering, Group Visits and Tours
Volunteers are a valuable asset to our
organization. Some volunteers interact with patients and families while
others work "behind the scenes” to perform essential clerical duties.
Every volunteer position is important and provides a genuine service to
our hospital and patients.
Volunteer placement is based on:
- The needs of the hospital
- The kind of work you want to do
- The times you are available
Prospective volunteers must:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Participate in a telephone interview with the volunteer coordinator
- Complete a volunteer application – which will be mailed to you after the telephone interview
- Provide immunization records
- Provide two letters of recommendation
- Provide a current tuberculosis skin test
- Consent to a criminal background check if 18 years or older
- Sign a confidentiality agreement
- Complete an orientation process
These requirements do not apply to visiting groups unless the group establishes a consistent visiting schedule.

Group Visits and Tours
All group visits and tours must be arranged in advance
and are scheduled in consideration of the needs of the children and
families we serve.
If your group wants to interact with the patients and
families, it is recommended that you develop a plan that will promote
socialization - arts and crafts, theme party, games, etc. The best time
to schedule a group visit is in the evening or on weekends. Visiting
groups are limited to 15 members. To learn more about arranging a group
visit contact the recreational therapy department at (859) 268-5641.
If your group would like to learn more about Shriners
Hospitals for Children, presentations and ours can be arranged. To
learn more about types of presentations and tours available email wrice@shrinenet.org or call (859) 268-5674.
Annual Open House
We host an annual "Open House" the third Sunday in May
that provides a unique opportunity to see many different areas of the
hospital that are not open for regular tours. The festivities include
great food, entertainment and a parade!
