Volunteer Information
At Shriners Hospitals for Children-Honolulu, volunteers are a vital extension of our hospital’s health care staff.
We are looking for applications from people with unique talents to
help in all facets of hospital operations. In return, volunteers
receive the satisfaction of having contributed to Shriners Hospitals
for Children’s mission of providing the highest quality medical care.

The Application Process
Volunteer requirements:
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
- All applicants must attend volunteer orientation.
- All applicants must commit to at least one shift per week for three months.
- All applicants must undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to acceptance.
- All applicants must provide names and addresses of two references.
- All applicants must review three HIPAA and SHC Security Policies
and Procedures packets and complete the last page of each packet.
- All applicants must complete the Workforce Confidentiality form.
Health Requirements
- Volunteers are screened for tuberculosis and asked to submit a most recent 2-step TB test or X-ray results if the TB skin
test is positive.
- Volunteers must provide a vaccination record to show that they have been immunized against measles, rubella and chicken pox.
Volunteer Placements
The volunteer services office makes every effort to assign individuals to specified areas of
interest. The many volunteer opportunities include:
- Translating for medical staff and patients
- Helping children enjoy recreation activities
- Providing clerical support
- Assisting with special events
- Physical and occupational therapy aide
- Hospitality attendant in outpatient services
