Outpatient Clinic Information

Clinic Hours

Monday through Friday
7 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
(closed most major holidays)

What to bring

Plan on this first clinic visit taking up to 6 hours.
You will see a variety of medical professionals.
  • Any legal papers that show who has custody of the patient (such as divorce papers, court papers, medical power of attorney).
  • Please bring all items such as braces, crutches, prostheses, special shoes, walker, wheelchair or other special equipment each time you come to the clinic.
  • Past x-rays, doctor's reports and medical history of your child.
  • Name and address for your local family doctor.
  • Insurance and/or Medicaid card.
  • Child's shot record.
  • Child's social security card.
  • A pair of shorts or bathing suit for your child to wear for the exam.

What to Expect

  • In order to make a good plan of care for your child, this first visit may take up to 6 hours.
  • Your child may meet many members of your child's health care team.
  • The doctors and nurses will ask you many questions about your child. This helps us to better understand your child's condition and find the best treatment available.
  • Often, a new patient will need X-rays, lab work or other tests. Most of these can be done during this clinic visit.

Illness

If your child is sick, do not come to the hospital!

This includes:

colds
rashes
chickenpox
fifths disease
head lice
pink eye
vomiting
diarrhea
fever

Do not come if you have been in close contact in the last 3 weeks with someone with chickenpox. If you are not sure if your child should come to clinic, please call us prior to your appointment.

Your Next Clinic Visit:

After your first clinic visit, your child may be given a return appointment. This will be based on your child’s condition and needs. Please keep your appointment card. Please call us if you need to change the date of your clinic visit. Because we see so many patients in clinic, it can take weeks or months to get your next appointment date.

While You Are Here

Food

The cafeteria is open for lunch (cash sales only) from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for patients and visitors. Vending machines are also in the cafeteria and on the first floor near the Clinic. If you have an afternoon appointment, plan to eat lunch before your clinic time.

Lodging

If you should need to stay the night, many local hotels have special rates for Shriners' patients and families. Proof of appointment may be required to secure rates.

Smoking

There is no smoking in Shriners Hospital or in the parking deck. There is a smoking deck on the 1st floor.

Parking

Please use the garage marked for Shriners Hospital. Push the button on the box to tell security you are here for a clinic visit.

The Play Room

We have a play room in the clinic. This room has games, movies, toys and books. If you are going to the play room or you need to leave your clinic room for any reason, please let your nurse or the clinic secretary know.
