Care Coordination
The care coordination department provides counseling and guidance to patients and families coping with the stress of illness and hospitalization. Each patient is assigned a care coordinator to provide assistance with a variety of issues.
Referrals to community/healthcare agencies in your home town, care planning, discharge needs and transitional issues are just some of the areas where your care coordinator can provide assistance.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is provided on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our therapists offer comprehensive programs to help patients increase their level of functioning and independence. Physical therapy programs are tailored to the patients’ individual needs and we encourage family involvement in the therapy process. Physical therapy services include, teaching safe methods of transporting/transferring patients after surgery, instruction about appropriate exercises for increased strength and mobility, and gait training. In addition, the Erie Hospital’s heated aquatic therapy pool can help enhance strength and flexibility.
Radiology
Radiology services at the Erie Shriners Hospitals for Children® are designed to provide optimal radiographic examinations with minimal exposure. Our licensed technologists work with patients, families and the medical staff to ensure quality results. State of the art equipment is used to perform routine diagnostic x-rays and ultrasound studies. A board certified radiologist provides interpretation of all exams. Certain specialized studies, such as MRI, CT and other imaging modalities are arranged through outside facilities.
Occupational Therapy
The focus of occupational therapy is to train patients about the skills necessary to perform activities that are important for their age and development. In occupational therapy, our patients have an opportunity to gain experience and practice new skills in a safe environment. Occupational therapists structure activities tailored to the needs of each child.
Orthotics/Prosthetics
Orthotists and prosthetists work withour physicians, therapists, patients and families to provide children with the appliances that will serve their needs and enhance their abilities to perform daily tasks.
