JCAHO Statement
The Shriners Hospitals for Children - Erie (SHC- Erie) is committed to patient safety as well as patient and family satisfaction with the care we provide. Our accreditation by The Joint Commission and licensure by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) are tangible reflections of that commitment. The Joint Commission and DOH standards deal with hospital quality, safety-of-care issues and the safety of the environment in which care is provided. SHC - Erie is committed to meeting the standards in all these areas. SHC – Erie has an open door policy. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about care received at SHC - Erie, please discuss your concerns with the caregiver, department manager, hospital leadership or Jean Tauber, Patient Safety Officer. In addition, if you do not feel your safety concerns are addressed adequately by hospital leadership, you can contact the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority by calling (800) 254-5164. If the issue is not resolved by the hospital, you are also always free to contact The Joint Commission directly to raise your concerns. SHC - Erie will have an unannounced survey by The Joint Commission every three years to assess their compliance to the standards. When submitting a complaint to The Joint Commission about an accredited organization, you may either provide your name and contact information or submit your complaint anonymously. Providing your name and contact information enables The Joint Commission to inform you about the actions taken in response to your complaint, and also to contact you should additional information be needed.
