Clinical and Learning Opportunities
Shriners Hospital for Children-Cincinnati is proud to offer a range of educational opportunities, from medical professional and social care, to college internships and school project information. Nursing Opportunities Pediatric rotations and role transition courses are available through these affiliated schools:

Respiratory Therapy Our hospital works with several local colleges, training students in respiratory therapy and burns. Currently, we have affiliations with Northern Kentucky University, Cincinnati State, and University of Cincinnati - Clermont. For more information, contact respiratory care department. EMS/Firefighters and Paramedics Initial Pediatric Burn Care courses are held at the hospital periodically throughout the year. The next class is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2008, from 7 - 9 p.m. The course is designed for first responders - EMTs, firefighters, paramedics and nurses. This free seminar covers topics such as critical assessment, airway management, and case studies. Registration flyer available here. Occupational and Physical Therapy The Cincinnati hospital has affiliations with OT/PT programs across the country. For information on placement within our program, contact Paula Rasnick. Child Life Child life has opportunities for students to complete volunteer work, field work, practicum placements or full-time internships. For complete information on these opportunities, contact Kathy Washam, supervisor, child life services. Social Work/Care Coordination Our hospital has affiliations with many schools of social work. For information on practicum placement, contact Cindy DeSerna, MSW, supervisor, care coordination and family services. Hospital Tours Staff at Shriners are happy to accommodate vocational, and health-related high school groups for hospital tours. Included in the tour is program about Shriners Hospitals, hospital tour* and a brief presentation about burn care. For K-6, our "Paws for Prevention" program includes a presentation about the hospital and a burn prevention demonstration by Kasey, the Fire & Life Safety Dog.
