Rights of the Hospitalized Child at Shriners Hospital for Children - Canada

Children at the Shriners Hospital have the right to:

  1. Be viewed as children, then as a patients
  2. Be treated as individuals with their own special needs
  3. Be cared for by people who can see the world through their eyes
  4. Be afraid and cry when they feel hurt
  5. Be safe in an environment that is unfamiliar to them
  6. Ask questions and receive answers they can understand
  7. Be cared for by people who perceive their needs even though they may be unable to explain what they are
  8. Speak for themselves when they are able and have someone speak on their behalf when they are unable
  9. Have those dear to them close by whenever they need them
  10. Have their needs fulfilled
