Care Coordination
Care coordination provides ongoing care and planning for the child and family before, during and after hospitalizations. Care coordinators are registered nurses or licensed social workers.
Child Life / Recreation Therapy
We recognize that illness and hospitalization are stressful events in the lives of children and families. By using age-appropriate education, preparation and supportive activities, we strive to minimize the stress and help children and families cope positively with their health care experience. Activities include:
- Playroom for children and their siblings (parent or guardian must supervise siblings)
- Medical play
- Therapeutic arts and crafts
- Video games
- Books and magazines
- Games
- Radios, tapes and CDs
Rehabilitation
The rehabilitation department provides occupational and physical therapy services to patients on admission as needed. Services include:
- Making splints and orthotics
- Positioning in bed or hair
- Exercises
- Teaching the use of devices for eating, bathing and dressing
- Improving mobility
Food and Nutrition
Good nutrition is important to your child's health and recovery. Dietitians meet with families to explain any necessary changes in a child's diet and provide general nutritional information and answer questions.
School Services
Certified teachers work with children during hospitalization and provide individualized instruction Monday through Friday. In order to meet individual needs, please come prepared with school textbooks and all assignments. It is best to contact your child's school teacher early so that the assignments can be gathered. Upon your request, we will send your child's school a progress note after discharge from the hospital.
