Expert Pediatric Burn Care
The Shriners Hospital for Children® — Boston is a 30-bed pediatric hospital providing comprehensive acute, reconstructive and rehabilitative care to children who have burn injuries. Shriners Hospitals for Children® is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.
We are equipped and staffed to treat the following:
- Acute burns
- Cleft lip and palate
- Congenital hairy nevi
- Ear deformities
- Hand deformities
- Non-burn conditions requiring wound care including: toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome, abrasion/friction injuries, purpura fulminans, epidermolysis bullosa
- Port wine stains and hemangiomas
- Reconstructive or restorative surgery as a result of “healed” burns
- Severe scarring, resulting in contractures or interfering with mobility of the limbs
- Scarring and deformity of the face
- Smoke inhalation injury
- Wound care and management
